Derron Smith, our 223rd ranked safety, is best suited to be a depth backup. We project he will end up with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers because they could use a player of this quality after losing Jordan Whitehead for an extended period of time. The Buccaneers currently have 5 healthy safetys, and 3 are rated better than Smith: (Christian Izien, Tykee Smith, and Jaquan Johnson).

The Buccaneers currently have no safetys under contract beyond the 2027 season, so Smith may only be getting a short term deal, considering his age, with the team.
